This event is proceeding, but with lots of remote participants and minimizing the number of people in any one space. Watch the livestream here: http://web.mit.edu/webcast/mitbitcoinexpo/s20/
Though it’s been less than five months since our October ‘19 Summit, we are almost ready to go again! This time, we are happy to present our first peer reviewed conference event, Cryptoeconomic Systems ‘20, in cooperation with USENIX, the advancing computing systems association. We gratefully acknowledge sponsorship from the Web3 Foundation and Calibra. Huge thanks to the MIT Bitcoin Club for hosting us alongside the seventh annual MIT Bitcoin Expo this year!
On behalf of the editors of the forthcoming open access Cryptoeconomic Systems journal, we are pleased to announce a two-day conference event to be held in Boston in early March 2020.
Tickets via MIT Bitcoin Expo here.

Cryptoeconomic Systems (CES) ‘20
The Cryptoeconomic Systems journal and conference series aims to be a reputable venue and scholarly publication of record for impactful original research and reviews, analyses, and systematizations of existing knowledge with a focus on cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. By bringing together the technical fields of cryptography, protocol engineering, and distributed systems research with insights from the domains of economics, law, complex systems, and philosophy, we hope to help crystallize a mature research commons.
The journal is to be published by MIT Press using a diamond open access policy, coordinated by a Managing Editor Wassim Alsindi and two Editors-in-Chief: Andrew Miller and Neha Narula. Guidance comes from our Advisory Board, whose members are: Dan Boneh, Eric Budish, Justin Drake, Shafi Goldwasser, Maurice Herlihy, Simon Johnson, Dahlia Malkhi, Sendhil Mullainathan, Arvind Narayanan, Robert Townsend, Kevin Werbach, and Pieter Wuille.
Accepted papers for Cryptoeconomic Systems ‘20 will be presented at the conference and will conditionally appear in Cryptoeconomic Systems journal.
Winter usually means quieter periods of activity, but this has not been the case at Cryptoeconomic Systems HQ! After our inaugural Summit in October 2019, our first Call for Papers closed in mid-November after a short extension to accommodate greatly increased interest following our first CryptoEconSys event. Together with our 42-member Program Committee we then commenced a pioneering experiment into interdisciplinary peer review.
Based on the feedback of reviewers and ensuing discussions with the editorial team, we selected 26 papers from 80 submissions for Cryptoeconomic Systems ‘20. We employed four outcome types with different pathways to publishing in the journal which we’ll unpack in greater detail alongside the conference program shortly.
