Opera of the Future PhD student Manaswi Mishra will host a lecture and performance with musician and technologist Tejas Rode , a disciple of Pt Vyasmurti Katti, on the design of a new electronic harmonium and its synthesizer. Tejas will be accompanied by Pranav Ghatraju on tabla.
In traditional Indian music, a phrase is a sequence of harmonics that, when performed with specific transitions, evokes distinct emotions. A raag is a structured collection of such phrases — a form whose expressive depth often takes musicians years to master.
Ranjani, the successor to Petika, which was a 2025 Guthman Finalist, lowers the entry barrier for musicians by producing the appropriate harmonics while preserving a high ceiling for nuanced raag performance.
Join us for this live performance and lecture-demonstration to experience Ranjani in action, explore the ideas and technology behind it, and try the instrument yourself.
This event is free and open to all.
