To conclude its exhibition of "TECHNOSCAPE The Architecture of Engineers" (October 1, 2022 –April 16, 2023), Museo MAXXI in Rome, Italy, hosted an afternoon of lectures and debates to deepen the state of the art of structural engineering and architecture and investigate possible future research development. As part of this exhibition, the Media Lab's Space Exploration Initiative presented parts of its research centering on materials and components designed initially for use in space exploration missions, and then to be integrated into everyday use.
Valentina Sumini, research affiliate with the Space Exploration Initiative, presented on behalf of MIT as part of the "Technology, Digital Culture, AI, Robotics" panel. Sumini synthesized the research activities developed at MIT SEI, the different spacesuits design narrative, and the role played by MIT Architecture department head Nicholas De Monchaux in the exhibition, introducing his book and his poster.
