Highlights of the Media Lab’s Participation at ICMC 2025

The MIT Media Lab will be actively engaged throughout the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) in Boston, with several performances and events showcasing innovative work at the intersection of music and technology.

June 12 | 11:20 AM -  132 Ipswich Street, Room 106, Berklee/BoCo

Ana Schon, Opera of the Future research assistant, will perform Here…NOW — a piece for rock band and acoustic-expressive electronics that invites listeners to engage deeply with the spatial context of live music.

Antonis Christou, from Opera of the Future, will present A Brief Stroll Through the Smallest Garden,  a composition for bass, electronics, and found sounds, that grows from a simple musical “seed” into a vibrant and expressive soundscape.

June 13 | 3:30 PM–4:00 PM  - MIT Media Lab – 3rd Floor Atrium

Manaswi Mishra, a member of the Opera of the Future group,  will present AI Jugalbandi, a duet performance that draws on the vocabulary of Indian Art Music culture to sample and synthesize with a real time generative AI system.

June 13 | 7:30 PM–9:30 PM   - Edward and Joyce Linde Music Building

A special evening concert, co-produced by MIT, ICMC, and the Media Lab’s Opera of the Future group, will feature five new compositions performed by A Far Cry, including Tod Machovers recent FLOW Symphony for string orchestra, live AI, and electronics that explores the relationship between musical and “natural” (rivers, in this case) sound, mediated by an AI system designed by Manaswi Mishra.
