The Moon Dialogs is pleased to announce the third salon in our series aimed at advancing interdisciplinary lunar policy thinking relevant to near term lunar activity. The salons are focused exclusively on the Moon.
Friday, June 5 at 11am PST (2pm EST / 8PM CET) our topic will be Safety Zones in Practice & Lessons from Earth The discussants will be Yoav Landsman & Timiebi Aganaba-Jeanty who will provide comments from the perspectives of operators of missions, and international law respectively. We will have half an hour of presentations, followed by breakout groups, and concluding remarks. At the hour, there will be an optional 30 minute open discussion/afterparty for those who wish to discuss further.

Yoav is an aerospace engineer and holds a Masters in geophysics and planetary sciences. He gained his experience in engineering when he worked as a satellite chief systems engineer and as a satellite operations engineer for the Israeli Aerospace Industries. A talented lecturer, he talks frequently on space technologies, sciences, history and future.

Timi’s research explores participation mechanisms for global space governance and environmental governance. Her goal is to find ways to account for different perspectives and the participation of diverse actors in decision making. Timi received a doctoral degree in Air and Space Law from the Institute of Air and Space Law at McGill University, and she has been an Associate Chair of the Space Policy, Law and Economics Department at the International Space University, a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and in 2017 she was the recipient of a Space Leaders award by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF).
About This Series
The Moon Dialogs salons seek to cultivate thought leadership on lunar surface coordination mechanisms to accelerate peaceful and sustained presence on the Moon. We host monthly research salons on salient topics every full Moon. The Moon Dialogs is a partnership focused on governance and coordination mechanisms, convened by organizations and participating researchers exploring voluntary, multilateral mechanisms, norms, and economic arrangements that aim to grow ecosystems of lunar activity--both governmental and non-governmental. The project is a collaboration between Open Lunar Foundation, Secure World Foundation, the MIT Space Exploration Initiative, Arizona State University, and For All Moonkind. The Dialogs bring stakeholders to the table on equal footing, with an emphasis on practical tools, operating models, and rights frameworks for the next 10 years. Is it not a consensus forum, but a place to put forward ideas which will accelerate short term activity and support bold plans for sustained presence.
