After graduation, Chris spun a small perceptual interface company out of the Media Lab. He jumped to MERL at the first dot com bust, to work on smart buildings, and sensor networks. Then, he became interested in social networks and moved to Google when the Cambridge office opened. He then transitioned to Android when he became interested in mobile interface. Currently, Chris is trying to figure out what billions of people actually do with these devices.

How did your experience at the Lab influence your next step?

Routine talks with industry folk about our work forced us to think about the potential impact of our work, and made it very natural to transition the work out of the lab into a startup.

However much time you're currently spending talking to your fellow students about their work: double it.
