Miguel is a visiting student at the City Science group. He holds a background in geospatial big data and transportation planning, with civil engineering studies at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid with smeester stays at TU Wien and UAS Frankfurt. His work bridges urban mobility, geospatial data science, and the intersection of technology with social and historical perspectives.
His research interests center on how geospatial, open, and global data can address urban challenges, particularly those connected to the current poly-crisis, from climate change to housing affordability by exploring how such data can be presented and used by communities to conceive the city bottom up and pressure their local governments for change.
He has participated in diverse applied research projects, including the creation of a seismic exposure cadaster for Caribbean countries, the detection of on-street parking spaces in Vienna and Madrid, and the evaluation of Spanish cities’ climate action plans with a focus on mobility.
At City Science, Miguel has contributed to two projects:
A methodology and python package to analyze the coverage and access to services and opportunities on a global scale and the introduction of perception aspects in urban mobility.
