Sotirios Kotsopoulos focuses on applications of grammars, networked technologies, and autonomous systems in architecture, at building and  urban scale. He investigates the impact of computation on how we conceptualize and practice design and explores solutions for responsive housing, urban development, and sustainability. He is the designer of the Connected Sustainable Home in Trento, N. Italy that integrates wireless sensor networks, renewable energy systems, low tech  high thermal mass and high tech programmable electro-active materials that are driven by a visual grammar and an autonomous  model based control system . With Kent Larson and Ryan Chin, Sotirios participated in the first urban case study of Cityscope — a tangible, interactive, real-time data observatory and urban intervention simulator — to develop an intervention for Kendall Sq, in Cambridge, MA, addressing urban planning, mobility,  energy,  leisure/work, and urban agriculture.

Sotirios holds a PhD in Design & Computation from MIT and he is an Associate Professor of Computational Design in the School of Architectural Engineering at the  National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece.
