Recent visit deepens collaboration on Social Algorithms, Future You, and community-driven innovation, building on the momentum of September’s KBTG Techtopia summit.
Recently, the MIT Media Lab had the privilege of visiting member company KBTG’s headquarters in Bangkok, continuing a dynamic relationship grounded in a commitment to community-centered innovation and technological excellence. The Media Lab delegation, led by Mirei Rioux, Director of Member Operations, and Professor Karrie Karahalios—Professor of Media Arts and Sciences and head of the Social Algorithms group—connected with KBTG Managing Director Dr. Thadpong Pongthawornkamol and Deputy Managing Director Dr. Monchai Lertsutthiwong. Dr. Karahalios shared insights from her recent return to the Media Lab, where her new group is focused on the intersection of algorithms, justice, and community impact.
The discussions explored several collaborative research efforts, including Future You and Multiple You, both of which showcase the effectiveness of AI-powered personalized experiences in boosting self-reflection and long-term decision making. Future You, an ongoing initiative developed by both organizations, harnesses machine learning to create realistic digital representations of a user’s future self, promoting wellbeing among more than 60,000 global users. The impact goes further through KBTG’s active engagement with universities and nonprofits in Thailand, widening the reach of research projects across finance, medicine, and education.
