Scaling Privacy Preserving Payments in a Centralized Digital Currency

This project is working on understanding and implementing privacy preserving payments in CBDC. After surveying privacy techniques from cryptocurrency designs, we are implementing and evaluating three potential designs in the DCI’s PArSEC system using Lua smart contracts: eCash with blind-signatures, Merkle Tree based privacy, and a new sharded Merkle Tree privacy design. Each design introduces a new property– privacy, auditability, and scalability respectively– and we plan to evaluate the performance impact of each new property.

This is an MIT DCI student’s Masters of Engineering thesis project.
