Researchers from the Conformable Decoders group have developed a compact ultrasound imaging system that significantly reduces the size and cost of conventional breast ultrasound equipment while maintaining high-quality imaging performance. By integrating a miniaturized ultrasound probe with a portable acquisition and processing module, the system is designed to make breast ultrasound more accessible in clinical environments where traditional imaging systems may be impractical or unavailable. The portable platform could support more frequent breast imaging for individuals at elevated risk of breast cancer and help expand access to diagnostic ultrasound in community clinics, rural healthcare settings, and underserved regions. This work represents another step toward the group's broader mission of developing accessible, patient-centered imaging technologies that improve the early detection of breast cancer and advance equitable healthcare worldwide.
