Hyeokjun Yoon, a PhD student in Conformable Decoders group, received the 2nd Place Poster Award at the 2026 Gordon Research Conference on In Vivo Ultrasound Imaging for his presentation, “Portable, real-time 3D ultrasound for operator-independent breast imaging.”

The 2026 Gordon Research Conference on In Vivo Ultrasound Imaging brought together leading researchers in diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound to discuss advances in emerging ultrasound technologies and their translation toward in vivo and biomedical applications.
Hyeokjun presented his recent work on a portable ultrasound platform designed to enable real-time, operator-independent 3D breast imaging. The system integrates a sparse 3D transducer architecture, advanced acoustic materials, adaptive aberration-correction beamforming, and a vision-guided interface for reproducible probe positioning. Together, these advances aim to make volumetric breast ultrasound more portable, accessible, and suitable for longitudinal monitoring. The work was recently published inNature Communications as “Portable, real-time 3D ultrasound for operator-independent breast imaging.”
Hyeokjun’s research focuses on developing wearable and flexible electronic systems for biomedical applications, including ultrasound imaging, biomechanical signal decoding, and medical image analysis. His interdisciplinary work integrates nano- and microfabrication, embedded system design, and machine learning to develop next-generation biomedical technologies for improved health monitoring, diagnosis, and care.
