We live on the border between two worlds: our physical environment and cyberspace. People have developed sophisticated skills for sensing and manipulating their physical environment, but most of these skills are not employed by traditional Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs).
The Tangible Media group, led by Professor Hiroshi Ishii, explores the Tangible Bits and Radical Atoms visions to seamlessly couple the dual world of bits and atoms by giving dynamic physical form to digital information and computation. The goal is to enrich human interactions with the digital world taking advantage of the multimodal human senses and dextrous skills developed through a lifetime of interaction with the physical world.
