AI is about to become pervasive in all aspects of life. How will we live and work in a world where AI is ubiquitous and touches how we access information, learn, make decisions, express ourselves and take care of our health?
While accuracy, efficiency, privacy, and non-bias of AI systems are all important problems to work on, they do not guarantee that when these systems are introduced in a human context, the consequences will be beneficial. How do we design combined systems consisting of people and machines? How can we augment people’s abilities with intelligent systems?
The Life with AI program brings a wide group of Media Lab researchers together to prototype systems, run experiments, create provocative experiences and develop new technologies in the hope that this research can reveal pitfalls and opportunities and inform a more thoughtful design and deployment of these powerful technologies.
This research deep dive will focus on an important corner of Life with AI, namely the impact and possibilities of generative AI, the use of deep learning and large data sets to produce text, sound, images, movies, 3D designs, virtual characters, even proteins and drug candidates. Generative AI is starting to do things we thought only people could do: create, explore, invent. How might this technology be used to support people in being creative? How will roles and processes change for people in creative professions, whether they are designers, product developers, copy writers, computer programmers, movie makers, writers, students, scientists or researchers? What are some innovative use cases of generative AI in business? What new possibilities will it enable? What are its limits and what should we be mindful of?
