City Science Lab Guadalajara
City Science Lab Guadalajara
The City Science Lab @ Guadalajara, presents recent initiatives that put into practice computational and data-driven approaches to urban challenges in Latin America. This presentation will cover an overview of HABITAT LATAM, an annual event hosted by the University of Guadalajara that brings together actors from industry, government, academia, and civil society to advance sustainable urban development.
Two ongoing projects of interdisciplinary research and technological innovation will be shared. The first, a conceptual framework to model urban mobility under stress during mass events, using tools from network science, queueing theory, and Space Syntax to analyze mobility patterns at the University Cultural Center (CCU) and offer strategic planning insights for managing mobility choices under conditions of high demand. The second project introduces a low-cost urban sensing framework using Artificial Vision and IoT to monitor pedestrian and vehicular flow, environmental conditions, and public space usage. This system, deployed in two University facilities, feeds into Campuscope, a platform that transforms real-time data into actionable indicators for urban management. These initiatives collectively broaden the City Science framework by adapting global methodologies and developing innovative, context-sensitive solutions specifically tailored for Latin American urban realities.
