The City Science group  will participate in COP30 in Belém, Brazil, presenting a series of events that explore the intersection of technology, design, and governance in shaping sustainable urban futures. Through immersive installations, collaborative panels, and cross-sector dialogues, City Science researchers and collaborators will highlight innovative approaches to climate resilience, regenerative development, and community empowerment.

Discover how cities are using AI, data, and systemic portfolio design to accelerate climate action. This session showcases CHAMP Brazil’s 50-city implementation, the open-source CityCatalyst platform, and MIT’s “Transformative Cities” vision linking urban innovation to Amazonian resilience.

We invite mayors and city leaders to explore the formation of a new network dedicated to using advanced modeling and simulation tools to better understand and shape urban futures. This initiative will help cities measure their current social, economic, and environmental performance—and test how new designs and public policies could improve outcomes for their communities.

Innovation and Investigation as a Driver of Change

COP30 side event in Madrid - 9am to 3pm Madrid Time

As part of the side event “a Day at COP30”, the City Science Lab Gipuzkoa will lead a workshop focused on exploring governance spaces for climate action. The session will invite participants to reflect on new models of collaboration and decision-making that integrate research, innovation, and local knowledge to advance the goals of the Paris Agreement.
