On August 25–26, 2026, during the Hábitat LATAM 2026 event in Guadalajara, Mexico, the MIT Media Lab formalized a major collaboration with the University of Guadalajara through the inauguration of the Kent Larson Chair — a milestone that consolidates the City Science Network's structural link with the university's new postgraduate programs.

Presided over by Rector General Karla Planter Pérez, the ceremony recognized Kent Larson's international impact on urban research and innovation. The chair establishes permanent mechanisms for academic exchange, mentorship, and collaborative research addressing critical challenges facing Latin American cities: water resilience, housing justice, mobility, and sustainable urban development.
