How will we live together?
The 17th International Architecture Exhibition—La Biennale di Venezia—will run from May 22 to November 21, 2021, curated by architect and Dean of the School of Architecture and Planning at MIT Hashim Sarkis. “We need a new spatial contract. In the context of widening political divides and growing economic inequalities, we call on architects to imagine spaces in which we can generously live together.”
To address this question, the City Science group presents an immersive window into the worlds of three women in three rapidly urbanizing areas of the world: Eva in Lomas del Centinela, Guadalajara, Mexico; Gihan in Ezbet Khairallah, Cairo, Egypt; and MamaG in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Through projection mapping, soundtrack and a physical model of the cities, we experience the commonalities and singularities of their lives. Swinging from the food plate to the planet, from the absolute mundane to a surrealistic recreation of places and events.
At the Biennale, With(in) is exhibited as an immersive installation. Additional content includes a video diary, a soundtrack, a thesis, and a book.
