Arnaud Grignard is a computer scientist specializing in complex systems modeling and information visualization. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from l'université Pierre et Marie Curie - UPMC. He is now a research scientist in the City Science research group at the MIT Media Lab. While working on different fields of application such as multi-level, urban systems and human mobility, he develops a new approach called agent-based visualization to handle real-time visualization tasks applied both to data and simulation outputs. Since 2011, Grignard is one of the main developers of the GAMA Platform, a modeling and simulation development environment for building spatially explicit, agent-based simulations.

His  research has been applied  in many different contexts, namely university research laboratories (MIT Media Lab, ENS Lyon, UPMC), public health research departments (IRD, Pasteur Institute), and within IT companies (Philips Research, TheCosmoCompany).

At the MIT Media Lab in the City Science group, Grignard is working on different projects, most of them related to the CityScope project. He develops  a novel methodology of interaction and collaboration called CityScope, a data-driven platform that simulates the impacts of interventions on urban ecosystems prior to detail-design and execution.

In Andorra CityScope he proposed a novel information visualization approach developed and deployed in the state of Andorra. This framework analyzes and represents the flow of people through a multi-level interactive and tangible, agent-based visualization. This framework, developed to understand Andorra visitor behavior, is embedded in the MIT CityScope framework used for civic engagement, urban development, and decision making. In CityScope Volpe he developed  a new generic model that creates an artificial micro-world, which allows the modeler to create and modify new mobility scenarios in a quick and easy way. This not only helps to better understand the impact of new mobility modes on a city, but also fosters a better informed discussion of different futures. This model takes into account different mobility modes, people profiles, congestion, and traffic patterns.
